Meditation for Anxiety and Worry
Nov 04, 2022Do you ever feel the waves of worry and anxiety crashing over you? Have you ever wondered about using meditation to calm your nerves or meditations for anxiety and worry as a tool that is available to you?
Maybe something specific comes to mind that causes stress or fear; or perhaps it’s just a bad feeling you can’t shake. If you are familiar with this, know that you are not alone — and no matter what the reason, anxiety and worry can feel like big emotions that are hard to process.
The next time you feel those waves crashing on your shore, take a moment to acknowledge those feelings instead of pushing them aside.
What is the goal of mindfulness meditation?
Meditation has been practiced by humans for thousands of years. It involves focusing one’s attention on something within or outside oneself to achieve a state of relaxation, calmness, awareness or connection with a higher being.
Try this: a meditation prompt for anxiety.
Grab a notebook or start a text message to yourself. Take a few deep breaths and then begin to write down an entire list of what you are worried about. Don’t judge yourself — jot down anything that comes to mind.
Then, star the items that you know are 100% true and not solely a feeling.
Is there anything on your list that you can handle right in this moment? Anything that is within your control to address?
What things are completely out of your control?
For the items that remain, acknowledge how they make you feel and speak to yourself as if you were speaking to a friend as to how you can manage the feelings that may arise.
Worry and anxiety are a part of life we all experience. Remember that you are not your thoughts – you are in control of your mind, body and spirit. And just by tapping into what you are feeling right here, you have already done yourself a great service.
