When you hear the word “leadership,” what do you think of?

Most people think about an individual leading a group… a manager, a military general, or a “guru” of some sort.

But leadership has other applications as well.

In fact, in order to lead others, you need to first be able to lead yourself!

The truth is, in order to traverse the inevitable hardships in life, you need to have effective self-leadership skills.

What does this mean?

Simply put, having the life skills to navigate through stressful situations is a vital part of becoming successful.

One of the most important parts of self-leadership is to acknowledge your emotions.

Recognize and process your emotions, both good and bad, as they come up.

This acknowledgment will help you on your journey towards accepting what is happening in the present moment and eventually, finding peace with it.

If you can manage your emotions, you can manage just about anything!

Another important aspect is to make sure that you set achievable goals every day, even small ones.

Accomplishing tasks, no matter how small, gives you a sense of satisfaction and momentum… which assists you in taking on larger tasks ahead of you in the future with confidence.

In addition to this, it helps to make sure that you are always looking for positives.

Frame opportunities for growth whenever possible by reframing hard situations as learning experiences and looking at what potential new knowledge or skills could arise from challenges.

Finally, it’s important to stay connected.

Being around other people helps keep us out of our own head and focused on others… which is beneficial in many ways.

Getting an outside opinion, hearing someone else’s point of view, and working together to solve problems helps you expand your vision and reflect honestly on your own strengths and weaknesses.
